Flow: In Yoga, vinyasa is a flowing sequence of asanas, or poses, usually centered around the Surya Namaskar (sun salutation) and linked to the rhythm of the breath. Breath-and-movement Yoga is meditation in movement. These classes may be slower (Mellow) or faster (Power) paced depending on the instructor but they have in common the consistent timing and movement of the body and the breath.
Iyengar: Iyengar Yoga is based directly on the teachings of world-renowned yogi B.K.S. Iyengar. Each Iyengar class focuses on a different sequence of poses. Over time, study in the Iyengar system will expose students to a full range of poses, developing strength, endurance, flexibility, and inner calmness. Accuracy and alignment are emphasized, and students learn fundamental principles that allow them to do postures safely and effectively as they progress from beginning to advanced poses. As students become toned, some poses are held for longer periods of time to allow for reflection and observation. Props may be used to help students learn a pose, do a pose correctly, or increase the time poses are held.
Jivamukti: What is Jivamukti Yoga? The Jivamukti Yoga method is a style of Yoga created by Sharon Gannon and David Life in 1984. It is a vigorously physical and intellectually stimulating practice leading to spiritual awareness. The name Jivamukti means “liberated while living.” Each class focuses on a theme, which is supported by Sanskrit chanting, readings, references to scriptural texts, music, asana sequencing, Yogic breathing practices, and the five tenets which make up a Jivamukti class: Ahimsa (non violence), Bhakti (devotion), Dhyana (meditation), Nada Yoga (sound listening, music, and chanting), and Scripture (the study of the ancient Yoga teaching including Sanskrit).
Pilates Mat: Based on the Pilates exercise system, focusing on core strength, flexibility, and coordination, Pilates mat classes are a perfect complement to your regular workout routine. They are also a wonderful way to begin your journey into fitness. Pilates is based on the six principles of concentration, centering, control, precision, breath, and flow.
Meditation: Meditation helps to reduce stress, and develops a sense of inner peace, joy, and strength. Scientific tests have shown that meditation can lower your blood pressure, improve your memory and creativity, as well as strengthen your immune system. Satori’s one-hour guided meditation classes help students to relax, refocus, and leave behind the long list of daily obligations — even if just for a brief time. Meditation classes are open to those new to meditation as well as those who have a more regular practice.
